Master Sergeant Thomas Kielbasa, the spokesman for the Guard’s relief mission, explained their role: "We will be driving to areas where local authorities say help is needed. If people need to be evacuated, we’ll do that." This proactive approach ensures that residents receive the help they require, whether it’s evacuation or simply checking in on their well-being.
Midway Fire Department Lt. Jamie Chandler joined the National Guard in their mission, driving through flooded neighborhoods to assess the situation.
